Is it possible to buy a part to an HP laptop battery charger?

I doubt it. The part you describe as being faulty is where the cost is in the part anyway. The other part of the charger is just a lead. The part with the tip that plugs into the laptop is normally moulded to the adaptor, so you need to replace that whole section. Why not just buy a cheap generic laptop power supply from your local electronics store? Take the faulty one in and you'll probably be able to get a new one for about $50 AUD

ebay or newegg.com
Also, have you considered putting an ad on craigslist to see if you can get one? I am sure there has to be someone around that has a junk HP with a good cord!

no, for the hp laptops there are no service calls that concern the battery. If the battery keaps on falling out, consider plack duct tape it's not pretty, but it works.
Sorry, hope this helps
