Home security might not seem a likely smart-phone app, but the owner of a new do-it-yourself security store says Web-browsing phones are at the heart of the latest development in home and small business security.

Relatively inexpensive wireless, motion-detecting surveillance cameras are the other part, said Rick Moore, owner of Moore Security Solutions, 5608 E. Broadway. The store held a grand opening Saturday.

The motion-sensing cameras can be set up to dial your phone, alerting you to motion at your front door or inside your home or business. You can then check a website to see what the camera is seeing and to verify whether the motion is a party balloon being blown around by the air conditioner, the FedEx guy or a burglar - before calling 911.

The wireless motion-sensing cameras, linked to the home's or business's high-speed Internet modem, can call any number, a standard cellular phone or a hard-wired phone, allowing you to monitor the camera's image on a laptop or desktop, too. But Moore said the Web-browsing smart phones let you get the page and check out the video on the same device.
