TomTom XL 340-Smurf - Fans of the 80s cartoon feature the little blue Smurfs will love this limited edition GPS device from TomTom. The Smurf blue exterior adds a touch of class, but what really sets this device apart is the software. Papa Smurf or Smurfette direct you during navigation and replace every street name with "Smurf": "Proceed along smurf and turn left in 500 yards at Smurf Avenue." Aboslutely Smurf-a-rific!

Magellan Dungeon Maestro 4700 - Magellan, with a license from Dungeons and Dragons maker Wizards of the Coast, has developed the Magellan DM 4700 GPS device. Instead of a "navigator" you get a "DM" to guide you through your journey. An on-screen 20-sided die will roll when touched, with great 3D physics to see if you've passed the skill challenges necessary to move on to the next stage of your trip. Fail a saving throw and you may end up dead at the bottom of a gorge.

Which Magellan GPS is better? 1475t or 4700?

I have tried both. The small screen version of garmin is not the way to go, if you are like me and you are used to a touch screen keyboard then another brand is needed – qwerty keyboards suck for me. The Tom Tom has better software to find something on route. For example, if you are travelling for a few hours and you would like to get a Thai dinner along the route, Tom Tom makes good choices. Garmin is SO SO stupid, the programmers should hide their heads in the sand, because it will actually route you to Thai restaurants that are not along the route but even ones behind you. Its just retarded. Tom tom is much better as I said. However the map in Tom Tom is just not as good. Way points vary from city to city between the two gps systems. Hard to call their tech support. Garmin`s maps are simply impossible to beat, but their software is not quite as good I would say. On the other hand for novice users the garmin is much easier software to use. Oh one other thing... Garmin does make it easy to click on the map and get an overview which is easy to zoom out and click and drag around to see where you are going and what the gps has planned for you. Tom Tom can give you an overview but its not draggable (not a word I know) as far as I can figure out. Also you have to go through 2 menus to even get the overview. I find this a very very bad shortcoming because you can`t just trust a gps you need to take a look at what its planning. Sometimes they make stupid choices and screw you up bad so you have to review what they are planning. So it must be dead easy to get that overview in map form. Garmin does this nicely.

Magellan, TomTom is a good GPS but Garmin is better.

Which high end GPS do you prefer for use just in the US, Garmin or Magellan?

Normally I always suggest Garmin over other brands but for those models you have looked Magellan 4700 would be better choice.
