Lite-On has released the iHBS112 Blu-ray drive which features 12X write speeds, the fastest currently available. Other highlights include 3D playback and 2D to simulated 3D playback. 

The 2D conversion comes via included Cyberlink software that is able to take standard DVDs and tune them for simulated 3D playback. The tools also up-scale standard definition material to HD. 

Aside from the media tools, the drive is also a great storage solution, with support for 50GB (double layer) Blu-ray disks, compared to the 8.5GB DVDs. The iHBS112 uses the SATA interface and also ventilates well, making it a good fit for mini desktops and home theater configurations. 

Availability

The Lite-On iHBS112 is the OEM version and carries an MSRP of $149.99. The retail package, iHBS212, will sell for $189.99 and includes the LightScribe disk labeling system. Units will be available in June.
