What is the difference between DVD and Blu-ray home theater system?

You have answered your own question. The only difference is the blu-ray player. If you were to play a DVD in both systems, they would sound the same, but blu-ray on its own has better sound and picture than DVD, regardless of the system it's played on. If you want a system that plays blu-ray, get one of those.

As of today, my answer is 'none'.
Search for components instead of HTiB.
