Sony 3D Promos At-Home 3D: At Expense Of Theater Experience?

“I refuse to say the sky is falling,” declared Sony chairman Amy Pascal, when I asked her about the grim summer box office so far. She was observing the Sony 3D show-and-tell Wednesday on the Sony lot. Clearly, not only is the studio earmarking a number of 3D features for 2010 and beyond—including Resident Evil Afterlife in 2011 and Spider-Man 4 and Men in Black III for 2012 (Will Smith putting on his shades takes on a new meaning), but the entire corporation is moving aggressively into the 3D space both at home (PS3, 3D games, Bravia HD 3D televisions, Blu-Ray 3D devices) and in theaters (see videos below and Sony News ).

Sony America CEO Sir Howard Stringer hosted the event on the old MGM studio’s Stage 8, as the press corps sat on white vinyl sofas and donned their 3-D glasses. “Creation, distribution and display,” are

business projector versus a home theater projector? Is there that much of a difference in black levels?

I am confuse with your question. Are you saying you can afford a $2000 projector or can't afford?

Try using a home theater projector if you can. The bussiness projectors are not meant for movies. They are meant for slide shows and a small movie clip.

Now you can get a decent Epson projector that is around $3500 Canadian dollars with a $300 rebate right now. I believe the model is the Epson 1080. Epson makes a decent projector.

Ofcourse you can opt to get the cheaper projector. I have personally seen the Epson 1080 and it does a great job on the big screen.

There are also some decent screen around. I think you should provision more for your screen though. Try to think $1000 for a screen. They a decent Draper screen would serve you well.

On the other hand you can also paint the wall matte white and it should work as well. You can try looking for the "goo"-this stuff is supposedly able to serve as a screen.

doesnt really matter.on search type (xga dlp 2000lumens projector) you have a few choices.

What home theater projector should i get?

With that short of a viewing distance (8-10) feet you will want either a DLP or a Panasonic LCD projector. The reason being is that screen door will be visible from that distance. I'd recommend the Panasonic PT-AX100U (or 200U). It uses a technology called Smooth Screen that virtually eliminates screen door. I owed a 540p Panasonic for several years and I loved it. All Panasonic home theater projectors built within the last 4-5 years use smooth screen. No other LCD manufacturer can touch Panasonic when it comes to reducing screen door.

A 720p DLP is also a good bet. DLP's have less screen door that LCD, so you should be fine at 8ft. Take a look at the Mitsubishi HC1500 or HC1600. Both are excellent entry level DLP's. Infocus and Optoma also make nice entry level DLPs.

PS.
If you pick up an HDMI switch at monoprice.com you'll only need a projector with 1 HDMI input.

I would avoid a home theater in a box system if possible. Buy the best speakers front speakers now that you can afford, and fill in with the surrounds later.
