Looking for a home theater surge protector?

I use a $40 surge protector (not just a power strip) from Radio Shack. It does exactly the same thing as the Monster product costing 3 times as much. That's why I never recommend a Monster product for anything, because although their products work just fine they do it no better than something half the price.
If all you need is a surge protector then go with something affordable. You can get a good power strip/surge protector for less than $100. Once you cross the line into voltage regulators and UPSs your price will go up considerably. One product I see recommended a lot by those who know what they're talking about made by APC. home theater surge protector vs ups?
Jan 17, 2010 by jake | Posted in Home Theater
Power conditioners are a huge waste of money. All you need is a $30 surge protector.
If you have frequent power outages, then a UPS might be a good idea. You can get one for less than $100 that will power most TVs.
But unless you have several power outages a month, you don't need to be concerned about the TV cooling. It won't hurt the TV if it happens only a few times a year.
Also, it's usually only large plasmas and older LCDs that have a fan. LCD sets with LED backlighting generally don't need one.
