Revamped Tote Set To Rock Again

THE famous jukebox has been upgraded, cider has been added to the range of beers on tap, and the new burnt-orange carpet doesn't stick to your feet.

But apart from a bit of spit and polish, the Tote will reopen tonight pretty much the same beloved, intimate rock venue that spurred thousands to protest when it was forced to close in January because of liquor licensing restrictions.

Tradesmen were working frantically on the finishing touches yesterday when The Age was the first media outlet invited to check out the refurbished Collingwood venue.

Most of the changes have been structural. Previous owner Bruce Milne had gutted the pub and sold off fixtures and memorabilia to pay legal costs incurred in trying to keep it open. New publicans Jon Perring, Sam Crupi and Andrew Portokallis bought some of the old posters and furniture to retain some of the old feel.

Can I tap into an existing electrical outlet to run power to a new outlet for a wall mounted TV?

You can run a new line from an existing outlet, just make sure the breaker the new line is running from is rated to handle the extra amps. You will also need a permit to add a new outlet and have to have the work inspected. If you don't and a fire results, your homeowners insurance probably won't cover the damage. If your a renter you would be liable if anything happened, including involuntary manslaughter or reckless endangerment of future tenents should someone be injured or die.

If it's your house, you can do anything you want. But if I were you I'd make sure my fire insurance was paid up.

If you buy a single gang pop in box and some 12-2 with ground you can add a outlet from the existing outlet. You would need 1 single gang box,10 to 12 feet of 12-2 with ground,1 new duplex outlet and cover. Its very easy to do.Good Luck and make sure the power is off when you hook everything up..

If I plug too many things into a power bar or wall tap, is it bad for the appliances?

First of all, you shouldn't be worrying about your appliances but that you may start a fire. See, the more plugged into the switch box, the more electricity is needed, but... there is a limit to how much the switch box can support and if there is no overvoltage protector it might surge and cause a fire (this would destroy your appliance) and even if you don't go over the limit, too much may have adverse effects: if there is a surge protecter, it is likely it will overdo it's job and not provide enough electricity so the appliance will struggle for more power, in the long term, the wear to the appliance is much longer this way also if there is no surge protector it may supply a little to much to your hair appliance which could cause it to overheat. Probably not a good idea.
